Since graduating from Edinburgh College of Art, University of Edinburgh in 1999 with a first class honours degree in Tapestry followed by a Masters degree at the same college, Elin has exhibited widely throughout Wales and abroad. She lives in Llanbedrog and is an art and design teacher at Botwnnog High School.
Her work which includes tapestry weaving and drawings, is inspired by the landscapes, seascapes and poetry of Wales.
Elin said: I re-create the lines, forms and borders of the land, the sea, and the sky. They are not literal translations, but muses and memories of a sense of a place. I allow the work to develop organically, leaving hints of human intervention by scratching into the layers in the drawings and by varying the tension of the yarns. I relish the laborious, repetitive discipline of weaving, for its stark contrast to the speed of modern-day life.
As well as exhibiting widely in Wales, and having exhibited regularly here at Plas Glyn-y-Weddw, Elin has exhibited in Argentina, Japan, Hungary, Germany, Edinburgh and London. In 1999 she won the Young Artist Scholarship at the National Eisteddfod.
