Rachel lives in Llysfaen near Colwyn Bay with her husband and small flock of sheep.
She has been experimenting with painting since she was a child. She gained a BTEC National Diploma at Bangor Art College , taught by Lesley Jones and Peter Prendergast who instilled in her a determination to keep observing and striving to capture the emotional response to the landscape around her.
Initial drawings are done en plein air then working in the studio, she paints with vigour , laying impasto oil colours perhaps smudging or scraping the paint until happy with the composition and mood.
Being immersed in rural life means she's out in the elements observing the seasons, skies and light constantly. This subconsciously contributes to her ability to demonstrate her love of land and coastline in particular the beautiful Llŷn Peninsula.
