Brought up on a hill-farm near Bala, Catrin Williams has lived near the sea at Pwllheli since 1996. Welshness - or rather the experience of living in Wales - is a constant theme in her work and elements from her background and upbringing in Meirionnydd insist on inclusion. The home and farm; celebrations and clothing; music and Welsh culture; the family traditions and familiar faces make their way into her colourful paintings, collages and 3D work. Recent depictions of landscapes echo her early paintings of the Berwyn mountains and the coastline and sea around the Llŷn Peninsula are a constant inspiration.
Catrin's work is exhibited widely and is held in many private and public collections. She is hugely popular as a workshop leader for both children and adults and she has undertaken many prestigious artist-in residence and site-specific projects. She has featured in many TV and radio programmes in Wales and further afield. In April 2021 she featured in S4C’s popular series ‘Cymry ar Gynfas’ as one of the portrait painters.
