Machynlleth painter Dan Roberson returned to education as a mature student in 2006, he obtained a first class degree in Fine Art from Aberystwyth University, and a Masters degree with distinction.
Alongside painting, he is Cinema Projectionist at Tywyn Cinema, furniture maker and father to three girls.
Dan describes himself as an observer who is inspired by the people and places that surround him.
It is of great importance to him that his work is accessible to all; his aim is to stimulate but never to alienate.
Painting, he believes, is the perfect vehicle for this.
He explores and attempts to deconstruct the prescribed notion of what constitutes beauty and challenges what historically is deemed worthy of the attention of a painter.
The work contains a strong narrative; the importance of communication and storytelling is very present.
However, his work is not limited by its descriptive nature, and the exploration of colour and reduction of form reveal a slow path towards abstraction.
