Meinir Mathias continues her exploration and reinterpretation of Welsh heritage.
Following her last sell out shows ‘Rebel’ and ‘Ysbryd’, Meinir continues her development of portraits and figurative paintings entwined with the symbolism from Welsh folklore and political protest. Her work draws upon folk imagery and history, whilst bringing a contemporary perspective through her work. Rendered in rich oil paint, figurative work, colour and composition play an important role in her paintings.
Meinir further explores ideas in relation to her Welsh identity which are linked to land, place, and memory. This body of work consists of original oil paintings and etchings.
Several of her paintings have been purchased by the National Library of Wales for the National Collection. She was awarded the People’s Choice award at The Royal Cambrian Academy of Fine art and featured in the Welsh Art Television programme ‘Cymru ar Gynfas’.
