Plas Glyn-y-Weddw is proud to be a member of the National Contemporary Art Gallery for Wales (NCAGW) initiative, which is part of Celf ar y Cyd – The Contemporary Art Collection. NCAGW is an exciting new initiative that makes Wales' national collection of contemporary art at Amgueddfa Cymru - Museum Wales and The National Library of Wales more accessible than ever before. Celf ar y Cyd aims to share the collection across the country, providing both physical and digital access to these important works. The initiative strives to make contemporary art more accessible to people across Wales, the UK, and internationally, enriching cultural engagement and fostering a deeper connection with Wales' artistic heritage.
The establishment of a national contemporary art gallery for Wales is a key priority of the Welsh Government’s Programme, with this objective being advanced through a collaboration between the Arts Council of Wales, Amgueddfa Cymru, and the National Library of Wales.
The national contemporary art collections held by Amgueddfa Cymru and the National Library of Wales are shared resources for everyone in Wales. Celf ar y Cyd facilitates access through a dispersed network of galleries, including Plas Glyn-y-Weddw, allowing local communities to explore the collection through an extensive loans programme. Additionally, the initiative boosts digital access, enabling a global audience to experience these remarkable collections from anywhere.
With the support of this funding and project, we have been able to expand our exhibition programme, offering a wider variety of contemporary art for our visitors. It has also enabled us to loan exciting new artworks from the national collection, bringing fresh and diverse pieces to share with our audience and customers, enhancing their cultural experience and deepening their connection with contemporary Welsh art.
